Wainono Lagoon

During outdoor education week Kea and Kakapo travelled by bus to Wainono Lagoon. We were in the same group. Our first rotation was seeing stuffed animals that are pests, such as wild rabbits. Then we searched for treasure. We found 9 sharks. Dylan found a mermaids purse with shark eggs in it and Andrew found 1 shark. We found a paua shell each and Katie found one paua shell too. On the third rotation we were with Kennedy and we found out about animals which live on the beach. We found a big bone and a small bone that looked like a dogs leg. We tasted the water in a pond and it tasted like sea water.

Outdoor Education Week - Wainono Lagoon

At Wainono Lagoon we found some jasper, a type of stone. First we looked at the strange pond and we tasted the water which was salty.  We saw splats of golden poo. The most awesome thing ever happened; we saw two dolphins which jumped up and then down. Next we moved on to the second activity where we learned about pests and stoats and traps. Our favourite stuffed animal was the cat which looked like it was saying “Eee”. The third activity was a treasure hunt where we were split into groups. Our group had Flynn as well as us in it. We found everything, even a shark. On the way back to school we talked about asfd movies.

Garlands Creek

On Thursday during Outdoor Education Week  the year fives walked to Garlands Creek where we built dams. Jack Todd, Connor Bootsma, Jack Farrell, Daniel Arthur, Ferg Sail and I were building a dam together. Then when Angela came along she helped us. When we finished we said thank you to Angela and left.

SLEEPOVER

On Thursday we stayed the night at school. We played games like spotlight at 9 o’clock, times games with scissors and mind games where other people had to try and guess what we were thinking of. Then we walked to the classrooms and got our beds ready to sleep in that night.

The Last Day

On Friday it was a dress up day. The theme was something to do with the sea. I dressed up as the god of the sea. We played games and made things like fishing rods. We also made bottle aquariums. We played capture the flag and had an obstacle course. We made boats out of polystyrene and driftwood. When we made boats we painted them and I got paint all over myself. I personally liked EOTC week.

Abseiling

On Thursday afternoon year four children from Kea and Kakapo went abseiling down a grassy hill and a rock hill. We went in a cave and there was a dead cow. We had to wear a harness, helmet and a carabiner.

Abseiling

It was a fun day abseiling because we got to explore the caves and learn how to abseil. The first hill we abseiled was the grassy slope. After we abseiled we walked to  the cave which was freaky. It was fun when we got to play ambush.

Wainono Lagoon

On Tuesday during outdoor education week my class went to Wainono Lagoon. It was fun because we learnt many things and saw some stuffed animals. We got to pick up dead sharks. We liked building rock towers and smashing them. Mrs E was very kind to teach us about Wainono Lagoon.

Wainono Lagoon

In the bus on the way to Wainono Lagoon chatter came from all sides. When we arrived everybody pushed to get out first. We all sat down on a tarpaulin. One group stayed there to learn about pests with Mrs. E, one group went to the beach for a scavenger hunt with Pauline and the last group learned about habitats with Kennedy. We made rock towers then knocked them down. We all had a lot of fun and we hope we can do it again.

Sleepover

On Thursday we had a sleepover at school as part of Outdoor Education week. Everyone was talking during the night but every time the teacher came in they stopped talking. They were really annoying.  Before the sleepover the teachers gave us afternoon tea which was biscuits and fruit.  Around about nine o’clock we played spotlight but we only had three torches and we needed four. Luckily a policeman came to school and he had a torch so we could play with that.  Staying the night at school was really fun.
